Current Situation

 Annual Church Meetings (APCM)

2020 APCMs for each of our churches were postponed because of coronavirus, in line with advice from the Church of England. These meetings are important in the life of our Churches. They provide an opportunity to review the previous year and communicate a vision for the year ahead. They also provide the occasion on which Churchwardens and members of the PCC are elected. We have been instructed by the Bishop of Exeter that the meetings for 2020 must be held by 31st October. We will therefore be holding meetings in each of our churches following services in October. Dates and times are as follows:

West Down – 18th October @ 10.30am

Marwood – 18th October @ 6.45pm

Heanton – 20th October @ 4.45pm

Please give prayerful consideration on whether God might be calling you to serve as a PCC representative or take on responsibility as one of its officers. Nomination forms are available from each of our PCC secretaries. Phone the Rector, Rev. Steve Painting or Associate Priest, Rev. Caroline Raby if you would like to talk it through first.

Harvest Service

This year because of the coronavirus pandemic we will be observing the harvest season in a different way to usual. We are encouraging our congregations to observe harvest during the week commencing Sunday 4th October extending to Sunday 11th October. On 4th October a recorded, on-line, service is being prepared for the Mission Community website www.northtaw.org.uk and the Georgeham and Croyde Church website www.churchincommunity.com Harvest readings will be used in the Church services held at Heanton and West Down on that day.

On 11th October Paul Cornelius of the overseas development charity, Food for the Hungry UK will be speaking at our services at Heanton and Marwood.

We would prefer not to receive cash or food donations at any of these services because of coronavirus measures and so we are encouraging three options for giving in recognition of the harvest season and God’s provision for us. These are as follows:

Food banks – Food donations can be made in most supermarkets and some local shops. The need for foodbanks has increased significantly during the pandemic.

The Freedom Centre – Our Churches have for some time used harvest services to support the work of the Freedom Centre. Information about the work of the charity can be seen and on-line donations can be made by going to the website: www.freedomcommunityalliance.org.uk

Sponsor our Rector, Steve and his wife, Claire as they complete a virtual version of the London 10k run on behalf of Food for the Hungry UK

Steve writes – Claire and I, having signed up for the London 10km run earlier in the year, will now, because of the coronavirus pandemic be doing a virtual version of the event on October 24th 2020. We will be running a 10km route closer to home in support of Food for the Hungry UK and hope to raise £500 for the charity. If you would like to support us and the charity as we do this, donations can be made through our Virgin Money Giving web page  https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/StephenPainting

House groups are keeping in touch with each other.

If you need to contact someone, the contact details are on the Home page.

We would like to acknowledge and thank those of you who, as part of your commitment to worship, have given financially to the work of our churches. We also recognize that many of you, in spite of the difficulties of the current situation, continue to give through standing orders and the Parish giving scheme.

Over the last few months the income of our churches has, quite understandably, dropped significantly. One of the reasons for this is that we are not currently able to receive gifts physically through offerings made during services. If you have not been able to make a contribution through worship in the usual way and would like to, or if you would simply like information about how you could give to the work of the church please contact the relevant treasurer above.
